Added new projections (Mercator, Transverse Mercator, Panini, Panini Portrait) Added new resolution option, to process in lower resolution. With Ultra Fractal, you can choose from thousands of fractal types and coloring algorithms, zoom in as far as you want, use gradients. Today, fractals are much more than the Mandelbrot sets that you may have seen before. Ultra Fractal 6 is a great way to create your own fractal art. Bumping to 8 gb of RAM may have a marginal impact, beyond that zilch (I do not think the machine can use more than 8gb).Ultra Fractal: Advanced Fractal Software for Windows and macOS.
Photoshop Uf Install Sierra ToMy experience is that CPUs of that vintage will run best on Yosemite or Mountain Lion. Apple will not even install Sierra to certain models for good reason, the reason having to do with software bloat in the OS such as adding features like Siri. Download Photoshop.Apart from a minor RAM upgrade the free things you can do include making sure your internal drive has adequate free space and you are running no other programs in the background while using PS. As of March 2021, Photoshop now runs natively on Apple computers using the Apple Silicon M1 chip with 1.5X the speed of similarly configured previous generation systems. Run Photoshop faster in native mode on Apple computers using the Apple Silicon M1 chip. There's no excuse for not putting as much RAM as possible into a computer. With 4GB you are on the lower edge of usability. What I did:- I maxed out the RAM (16GB). Now that I am using Photoshop and Lightroom a lot it is even slower so I'm thinking about an upgrade.Unfortunately I'm not an expert on this so would appreciate your advice on what upgrades will be most effective to speed up my MacBook or if I should consider a new model.I still have one of those as my backup laptop. I would not put any money into your current system apart from 4gb of commodity priced RAM.I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory) but it has recently slowed down. Mounting progasm for macThe file system (HFS+) is crap, I am really looking forward to APFS. Installing and SSD is pretty easy. Also make a habit of "cleaning" the system once in a while. The SSD makes the whole system snappier and faster. I will, for one, never again work on a machine without SSD. I believe you can still order Mountain Lion, if you hunt around a bit on the regular Apple / Apple Store site (not in the Mac App Store). Whether Sierra is the best version, I can't say. Bumping to 8 gb of RAM may have a marginal impact, beyond that zilch (I do not think the machine can use more than 8gb).According to MacTracker, a 13-inch Mid 2012 MBP with an "official" limit of 8 GB of RAM can actually take 16 GB.The core 2 duo by current standards is just too slow a platform to run current software. The OP's machine has a dual-core Core i5.Apple will not even install Sierra to certain models for good reason, the reason having to do with software bloat in the OS such as adding features like Siri. The OP's machine can run Sierra ("MacBook Pro (2012 or newer)"). I am sad to inform you that based on my experience adding an SSD does so little for overall throughput that it is hardly worth the effort of cloning and installing a new drive. A good tool for that is Onyx (free), justrun the auto mode once a month and have it look for problems with the file system, repair permissions, etc.I have a MacMini of that vintage with the same processor. 8GB would be fine, but RAM is so cheap that 16GB provides additional headroom (many users are upset the 2016 MBP does not support 32GB RAM). I have a 2011 MacBook Pro (yes, a year older than yours) that's been upgraded to 16GB RAM and an SSD, and it runs Photoshop and Lightroom just great. The 16GB RAM was just to avoid choking Photoshop and Lightroom especially when both are open and working. It's no surprise Photoshop and Lightroom are slow, they have no room to maneuver on that little RAM.I don't know what bmoag is talking bout in his reply.he said it's too old and SSD doesn't matter.I strongly, strongly disagree with that. ![]() With macOS Sierra Apple transitioned away from utilizing traditional user accessible/modifiable permissions and thus repairing through Disk Utility is no longer available, so maybe Onyx won't be as helpful there if you're on Sierra, but I hadn't done a clean honest hard drive wipe clean install in 5.5 years. Helps a lot, but see below for a caveat.Someone mentioned file system cleanup definitely do that. Like another poster mentioned, the official support is (was?) 8gb (for my older machine anyway so Im assuming yours is fine) but it has no issue acknowledging and utilizing 16, so go for the max. Literally way more impressive than I was hoping for.16gb RAM. Just a world of difference. OS and Apps on the SSD, the HDD (a 7500 rpm) houses all the docs/photos/etc. Or who knows what honestly, but it was awful. Plist files for all the work done on this machine for 6 years had piled up. Even starting Safari took an ice age, it was awful. Thats just completely unreasonable. ![]() If you only have 8GB RAM, your maximum graphics RAM is limited to lower than that and is more likely to be in contention with programs needing RAM too.If you were a user who mostly checked email and browsed the web, sure 8GB is more than enough for that. If you have 16GB RAM, macOS can allocate the full 1.5GB RAM when needed. Apple says the 2012 13-inch can allocate up to 1.5GB RAM to graphics, but the amount depends on the installed RAM. If you have 8GB and you are pushing the edge with Photoshop and the system wants to allocate more RAM to VRAM, maybe there won't be enough. Where does it get its graphics RAM? From the system RAM. Unlike the 15-inch, the 13-inch does not have dedicated VRAM (video card RAM).
